ROCKVILLE, Md., September 8, 2026 — The global gas turbine market is estimated at USD 11.82 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach USD 15.58 billion by 2036, expanding at a CAGR of 2.8%, according to Fact.MR. The market was valued at approximately USD 11.5 billion in 2025.

The market is gaining fresh order momentum from rising electricity requirements at data centers, grid reliability needs, and demand for flexible generation that can support intermittent renewable power. Fact.MR estimates an absolute dollar opportunity of USD 3.76 billion between 2026 and 2036.

Data Center Power Demand Changes Gas Turbine Orders

Gas turbines are used across power generation, oil and gas, and industrial applications. The market includes heavy-duty, aeroderivative, and industrial configurations operating in combined cycle, open cycle, and cogeneration modes.

The immediate demand shift is visible in turbine orders. Siemens Energy nearly doubled global gas turbine sales from 100 units in 2024 to 194 units in 2025, according to the Fact.MR report. The increase is closely associated with electricity requirements from data centers, particularly in the United States.

Grid reliability adds another layer of demand. Gas turbines provide dispatchable generation for baseload supply, peaking capacity, and fast-start backup when renewable generation fluctuates.

Fact.MR also identifies more than USD 175 billion in active gas-fired power projects in the United States, highlighting the scale of current project activity.

Market Fact Block

Fact.MR is a market research company that analyzes gas turbine demand across product type, capacity, technology, fuel type, application, end-use industry, and region.

The gas turbine market includes heavy-duty turbines, aeroderivative turbines, and industrial gas turbines used in power generation, oil and gas, and industrial applications.

CCGT Holds 60% Technology Share

Combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology is expected to account for 60% of the technology segment in 2026. CCGT plants capture exhaust heat through heat recovery steam generators, allowing thermal efficiencies above 60%.

Heavy-duty gas turbines represent 50% of the product type segment in 2026. F-class turbines remain widely used in utility-scale power generation, while H-class and HL-class platforms represent higher-efficiency configurations.

Natural gas accounts for 70% of fuel type share in 2026. Pipeline availability, LNG infrastructure expansion, and the role of natural gas as the lowest-carbon fossil fuel support its position.

Power generation accounts for 50% of application share, while energy and utilities represent 55% of end-use industry share.

Hydrogen-Ready Turbines Extend Market Relevance

Hydrogen-ready turbine technology is emerging as a major development in the market. Fact.MR identifies turbines capable of operating with 30% to 100% hydrogen blends as an opportunity for operators planning gradual fuel transitions.

Siemens Energy received TUV certification for its H2-Ready SGT-800 gas turbine concept in 2025. The technology was deployed at the Leipzig Sud hydrogen-ready combined heat and power station in Germany.

The company is also collaborating with SSE on the Mission H2 Power project. The initiative aims to develop a combustion system for the SGT5-9000HL turbine that can operate on 100% hydrogen while retaining natural gas and blended-fuel flexibility.

This technology trend gives turbine manufacturers another route to address decarbonization requirements while maintaining dispatchable generation capacity.

India and China Lead Country Growth

India is projected to record the fastest growth among the major markets, with a 4.2% CAGR through 2036. China follows at 3.9%.

The USA is forecast to expand at 3.5% CAGR, supported by data center electricity demand, grid investment, and gas-fired project activity. Saudi Arabia is projected to grow at 3.1%, while Brazil, Germany, and Japan are expected to record CAGRs of 2.7%, 2.4%, and 2.2%, respectively.

India's demand is linked to electricity consumption growth, industrial power requirements, LNG infrastructure expansion, and grid reliability needs. Saudi Arabia's market is supported by HL-class combined cycle projects and the country's Vision 2030 energy strategy.

Analyst Perspective

Shambhu Nath Jha, Principal Consultant at Fact.MR, said: “The gas turbine market is experiencing its strongest order cycle in over a decade, driven primarily by data center electricity demand in the USA.”

Jha pointed to a sharp rise in manufacturer activity. Siemens Energy sold 194 gas turbines in fiscal year 2025, compared with 100 units in 2024, while its order backlog reached 138 billion euros.

“This demand surge is structural rather than cyclical,” Jha said, citing electricity consumption from AI workloads and the difficulty of meeting near-term demand through renewable generation alone.

Competitive Landscape

The gas turbine market is highly concentrated among major global equipment manufacturers. Siemens Energy AG leads with approximately 17% market share, according to Fact.MR.

General Electric Company (GE Vernova) competes through HA-class technology and reported gas power equipment orders more than doubling in Q3 2025, including 13 HA heavy-duty turbines.

Mitsubishi Power Ltd. competes through its J-series and M501JAC platforms, while Ansaldo Energia serves specific capacity and regional requirements. Other companies identified by Fact.MR include Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, MAN Energy Solutions SE, Solar Turbines Incorporated, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., OPRA Turbines B.V., and Centrax Ltd.

The report identifies turbine efficiency, hydrogen readiness, manufacturing capacity, long-term service agreements, and data center specifications as important competitive factors.

Key Market Constraints and Opportunities

The market faces several constraints. Heavy-duty turbine delivery times can extend from 24 to 36 months, creating project scheduling challenges during periods of high order activity. Natural gas price volatility can also affect the competitiveness of gas-fired generation against renewable power paired with storage.

At the same time, data center behind-the-meter generation is creating a new application opportunity. Turbines can provide dedicated electricity to large loads without relying entirely on grid-connected utility generation.

Efficiency improvements also remain central. Fact.MR identifies combined cycle configurations exceeding 64% efficiency in H-class and HL-class systems as an opportunity for improving the economics of gas-fired generation.
