Subhead : The Industrial Absorbent Market is projected to grow from USD 4.8 billion in 2025 to USD 7.0 billion by 2036 at a 3.7% CAGR.

ROCKVILLE, MD — September 11, 2026 — The Industrial Absorbent Market is projected to reach USD 7.0 billion by 2036, rising from USD 4.8 billion in 2025 and USD 4.9 billion in 2026 at a 3.7% CAGR, according to Fact.MR analysis. The market is expected to add USD 2.1 billion during the forecast period, with demand supported by OSHA and EPA spill regulations while commodity clay and mineral segments continue to face pricing pressure.

The market is shaped by recurring industrial maintenance and compliance requirements. Industrial absorbents include granules, pads, rolls, socks, and pillows used to contain oil, chemical, and water spills across industrial facilities. The report covers demand across oil and gas, chemicals, manufacturing, transportation, and food processing sectors from 2026 to 2036.

Regulatory requirements support Industrial Absorbent Market demand

The timing is closely linked to compliance requirements. OSHA HAZWOPER requirements under 29 CFR 1910.120 create spill-response obligations at U.S. hazardous waste handling sites, while EPA SPCC regulations require secondary containment and sorbent deployment at facilities storing more than 1,320 gallons of oil. Fact.MR estimates these requirements affect more than 140,000 regulated U.S. facilities.

Asia-Pacific is also adding new demand. Petrochemical refining and LNG terminal infrastructure expansion is establishing spill containment programs at greenfield facilities during commissioning. Fact.MR identifies 5-to-7-year demand ramp-up curves for these facilities, separate from replacement demand at mature industrial sites.

Industrial absorbents are regularly replenished operational consumables. Their use helps industrial facilities contain spills, limit worker exposure, and address environmental discharge requirements.

Organic formats hold 54.3% share

Organic absorbents accounted for 54.3% of the market in 2025, according to Fact.MR. Their position is linked to biodegradability, the absence of silica dust, and compatibility with food and pharmaceutical standards.

A specific industry investment highlights this segment. Kimberly Clark invested USD 85 million in 2024 to expand cellulosic absorbent production in Tennessee, adding 120 million square feet of annual capacity.

Monarch Green launched coconut coir-based CoirSorb in 2024, with USDA BioPreferred certification for federal facilities seeking bio-based alternatives. Separately, 2024 National Safety Council survey data cited by Fact.MR found that 67% of manufacturers preferred organic formats because composting and energy recovery pathways can reduce hazardous-waste classification risks.

Clay remains the leading material category, holding 30.4% share in 2025. Its low cost per liter absorbed and slip resistance support use in automotive workshops, municipal maintenance depots, and smaller industrial facilities.

TOLSA announced a EUR 28 million expansion in Spain in 2024 to increase absorbent clay output while emphasizing low crystalline silica content compliant with European safety directives.

China records the fastest country growth

China is projected to record a 4.5% CAGR through 2036, the highest rate among the countries listed in the Fact.MR analysis. Petrochemical construction, updated emergency response standards, and higher sorbent capacity requirements at chemical facilities support this trajectory.

The United Kingdom and United States are each projected to grow at 4.1% CAGR. Japan is projected at 3.9%, while South Korea is projected at 3.7%.

South Korea's demand is connected to amendments to the Chemical Control Act, while semiconductor fabs and petrochemical projects increasingly specify high-purity polypropylene systems. Japan's market is being shaped by water pollution enforcement and corporate zero-discharge policies.

In the United States, OSHA silica enforcement and expanded EPA SPCC coverage are shifting some facilities from clay toward polypropylene and cellulosic formats.

 Suppliers compete through compliance services

The competitive structure includes branded suppliers and regional commodity producers. Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc., 3M Company, and Brady Worldwide, Inc. operate in the premium segment with product ranges supported by compliance documentation and on-site audit support.

Commodity clay and diatomaceous earth supply remains fragmented. Regional mineral processors compete largely on delivered cost, while buyers at highly regulated facilities place greater emphasis on compliance risk and total program cost.

Distribution reach remains another competitive factor. Global brands use large industrial distributor partnerships to maintain access to regulated facilities, while specialty chemical companies can combine absorbents with broader technical services.

Daniel S. Jaffee, President and CEO of Oil-Dri Corporation of America, has emphasized customer-focused solutions, financial performance, long-term sustainability, innovation, operational strength, and product development as priorities for the business.

“Customer-focused solutions remain central to how we approach the market,” said Daniel S. Jaffee, President and CEO of Oil-Dri Corporation of America. “We continue to invest in innovation and product development while keeping long-term business sustainability in focus.”

Sudip Saha, Managing Director at Future Market Insights, said regulatory evolution is changing how companies evaluate sorbent procurement.

“CXOs will find this report valuable because regulatory requirements are reshaping procurement decisions, moving attention from lowest-unit-cost clay toward engineered synthetic and bio-based systems,” said Sudip Saha, Managing Director at Future Market Insights.

The report also identifies opportunities for suppliers to offer site audits, spill-kit design, placement planning, replenishment scheduling, and disposal documentation. Digital inventory tracking can support automated reordering and reduce stockout risk for industrial customers.
