Subhead : Automotive radar market reaches USD 6.76 billion in 2026 and is projected to expand at 9.1% CAGR through 2036 as radar adoption rises across ADAS platforms.

September 28, 2026 — The global automotive radar market is projected to grow from USD 6.76 billion in 2026 to USD 16.16 billion by 2036 at a 9.1% CAGR, according to Fact.MR. The market was valued at USD 6.20 billion in 2025. Increasing radar sensor counts per vehicle, mandatory advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) fitment, and migration toward 77 GHz and 79 GHz millimetre-wave radar are shaping demand through the forecast period.

The growth represents an absolute dollar expansion of USD 9.40 billion between 2026 and 2036. Long-range radar accounts for 45.6% of the range segment in 2026, while passenger vehicles represent 71.8% of vehicle type share. OEM sales account for 82.7% of market value, reflecting the role of radar as a vehicle platform component specified during development and validated through type approval testing.

Fact.MR is a market research organization that provides market sizing, forecasting, segmentation analysis, and competitive intelligence across industries. The automotive radar study covers millimetre-wave radar sensor modules and associated processing software used for vehicle detection, ranging, velocity measurement, and ADAS functions.

Radar content per vehicle becomes a key market factor

The expansion of radar installations is not limited to new vehicle adoption. Fact.MR identifies increasing sensor counts per vehicle as an important contributor to market value. Mid-premium passenger car platforms are moving toward four- and six-sensor configurations, extending radar use beyond front-facing applications.

Adaptive Cruise Control represents 29.4% of the application segment and remains a major use case for long-range radar. Short- and medium-range radar are also gaining application across rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and parking assistance.

Fact.MR analysis states that the market is moving toward wider adoption of 77 GHz and 79 GHz radar as manufacturers seek higher-resolution sensing. These systems support more detailed detection capabilities for pedestrians and cyclists compared with earlier 24 GHz platforms.

China and India record faster country growth

China is projected to lead country growth at an 11.1% CAGR through 2036. Fact.MR attributes this pace to China NCAP safety-rating pressure, intelligent connected vehicle policies, and increasing radar deployment by domestic vehicle manufacturers.

India follows at a 10.3% CAGR. Bharat New Car Assessment Programme requirements and growing consumer awareness of ADAS safety features are contributing to radar adoption across passenger vehicle platforms.

Germany records a 9.4% CAGR, followed by Brazil at 8.6%, the United States at 7.8%, the United Kingdom at 7.0%, and Japan at 6.2%. Mature automotive markets are seeing continued increases in radar content per vehicle and upgrades toward higher-frequency platforms.

Fact.MR analysis points to regulation and safety-rating protocols as important demand factors. The European Union General Safety Regulation has required specified ADAS functions for new vehicle type approvals from July 2024, while NCAP protocol updates are increasing the importance of radar-dependent scenarios involving pedestrian, cyclist, and intersection detection.

77 GHz technology changes radar specifications

The shift from 24 GHz toward 77 GHz and 79 GHz technology is another defining development. Fact.MR reports that semiconductor advances and manufacturing scale are reducing the cost premium associated with higher-frequency radar.

This transition is helping manufacturers consider higher-resolution radar for mid-segment and entry-level platforms. The report also identifies 4D imaging radar, digital beamforming, and radar-on-chip solutions as technology developments supporting smaller, more efficient radar systems.

A specific development cited by Fact.MR occurred in April 2025, when Bosch introduced an in-house radar sensor at Auto Shanghai 2025 using a custom system-on-chip based on RF CMOS 22 nm technology. The mid-range version was targeted at manufacturers including BAIC, Dongfeng, and Jetour, with serial production already secured according to the report.

Regulatory pressure shapes radar demand

The automotive radar market is closely tied to ADAS adoption. Radar supports functions including adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and parking assistance.

Fact.MR's research methodology combines primary interviews with ADAS engineering managers, radar sensor product directors, and automotive safety homologation engineers with desk research covering regulations, NCAP protocols, semiconductor launches, and company disclosures. Market sizing uses a bottom-up assessment of radar sensor volumes by vehicle type and range category, alongside average sensor prices for 24 GHz and 77/79 GHz systems.

The report also identifies constraints. Multiple radar-equipped vehicles operating on the same frequency bands can create interference concerns, particularly in dense urban traffic. Integration and calibration remain additional challenges because radar must operate alongside cameras, LiDAR, and ultrasonic sensors within increasingly complex ADAS architectures.

Fact.MR analysis highlights software and sensor fusion

Fact.MR analysis indicates that competition is shifting toward software-defined target classification, sensor fusion, and system-level ADAS performance as radar hardware specifications become more standardized.

The report identifies Robert Bosch GmbH, Continental AG, Autoliv Inc., Valeo Group, Delphi Technologies, SaberTek Inc., Analog Devices Inc., Infineon Technologies AG, and Veoneer Inc. among the companies profiled in the automotive radar market. Semiconductor companies including NXP Semiconductors, Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, and Infineon Technologies are also active in radar transceivers, processors, and sensing platforms.

A second recent development cited by Fact.MR came in December 2024, when South Korea's bitsensing and NXP announced a collaboration combining radar chip design with hardware and signal-processing software. The collaboration was aimed at radar systems offering enhanced range capability and dual-axis sensing.
