All figures exclude 18% GST, which applies either way.

At 15 users, per-user billing costs almost double the server. At 20 it’s more than two and a half times — around ₹30,000 a year you didn’t need to spend.

What changes besides the price

The money is the obvious part. The performance difference matters more, and it shows up at exactly the wrong moment.

Dedicated resources. On per-user shared cloud, your session shares CPU and memory with other customers. On a VPS, the 4 vCores and 8 GB are yours. This is barely noticeable in a quiet week and very noticeable on the 18th and 20th of the month, when every business in India is filing and closing books at once.

Higher uptime commitment. Our shared cloud carries a 99.95% SLA. The VPS carries 99.99%. Over a year that’s roughly four and a half hours of allowed downtime versus about 53 minutes.

Storage headroom. 100 GB on the VPS, against 10 GB on the entry per-user plan. Company data grows slowly and then suddenly — a distributor with three years of inventory history and daily backups fills a small allocation faster than expected.

Room to grow without a new invoice. Adding your ninth user to a per-user plan costs more every month, forever. Adding them to a server costs nothing until you genuinely run out of resources.

What doesn’t change: the Tally licence

Worth being clear, because people assume moving to a server solves it.

Your TallyPrime licence requirements are the same either way. Silver supports one user at a time. Gold is required for concurrent multi-user access. If eight people need to work in Tally simultaneously, you need Gold — on a server, on per-user cloud, or on a PC under someone’s desk.

TallyPrime Silver is ₹22,500 and Gold is ₹67,500, both plus 18% GST. If you don’t own a licence yet, our Tally Cloud with Licence plan bundles one at ₹1,299 per user per month instead.

The hosting model and the licensing model are separate decisions. Don’t let a provider blur them.

When to go further than a VPS

A 4-core, 8 GB VPS handles a lot, but not everything. Consider a dedicated Tally server when:

• You’re past roughly 20–25 concurrent users
• Your company data file has grown large enough that reports crawl
• You run multiple company files with heavy inventory and long transaction histories
• You need guaranteed resources for compliance or audit reasons
• You want to run other applications alongside Tally on the same machine

The honest signal isn’t user count alone. It’s whether people are waiting on reports.

How to decide, in three questions

1. How many people actually work in Tally at the same time? Not how many have logins — how many are in it simultaneously on a busy day. That’s the number that matters.

2. Is anyone complaining about speed at month-end? If yes, move to a server regardless of the arithmetic. Performance problems at filing time cost more than hosting does.

3. Are you growing? If you’ll add three people this year, buying a server now avoids paying the per-user premium for months before you get round to switching.
