Carbon Fiber Market Roadmap: From USD 6.4 Billion in 2025 to USD 14.6 Billion in 2033
The carbon fiber market was valued at USD 6.4 billion in 2025 and is estimated at USD 7.1 billion in 2026. Grand View Research projects it will reach USD 14.6 billion by 2033, a CAGR of 10.9% from 2026 to 2033. Europe held the largest revenue share at 32% in 2025.
Market Overview & Projections
The headline numbers are simple, but the shape of the curve is more interesting. Going from USD 6.4 billion in 2025 to USD 14.6 billion in 2033 adds roughly USD 8.2 billion in new revenue, so the carbon fiber market more than doubles in eight years. The 2026 estimate of USD 7.1 billion already implies about 10.9% growth over 2025. The momentum shows up in the first step of the forecast, not only in later years.
What sets this market apart is that each region leans on a different anchor industry:
- Europe (32% of 2025 revenue): aerospace, with manufacturers such as Airbus. Germany adds demand from sporting goods and premium electronics, while the UK’s growth tracks automation and robotics.
- Asia Pacific: automotive, with Japan, China and South Korea pursuing lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles and EVs. China’s industrial policy and subsidies amplify that push.
- North America: the EV shift led by General Motors, Ford and Tesla.
- Central & South America: automotive demand in Brazil and Mexico, with a projected 10.4% CAGR.
Because the anchors differ, a slowdown in one end market is less likely to stall the global carbon fiber market as a whole.

Key Growth Drivers
Nearly every growth driver traces back to one property: carbon fiber’s high strength-to-weight ratio. What changes from industry to industry is how that property pays off.
In aerospace, lighter components reduce fuel consumption and improve aircraft performance. In automotive, lighter body structures, battery enclosures and interiors improve battery efficiency and extend EV range. In wind energy, strength combined with low weight allows longer blades that capture more wind, so the global move away from fossil fuels pulls directly on demand. In civil engineering, corrosion resistance and low weight make carbon fiber attractive for retrofitting bridges and buildings. Electronics and sports equipment, from bicycles to tennis rackets and golf clubs, benefit from durability without added bulk.
Policy and cost sit underneath all of this. Government incentives and subsidies for advanced-materials R&D are supporting production innovations that cut costs and improve manufacturing efficiency. As carbon fiber becomes more affordable, more industries can justify using it, which keeps the demand base widening.

Core Market Segments
By raw material. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) is the backbone of the industry, with a 96.5% revenue share in 2025. EV makers are a major pull, using PAN-based fiber in body structures, battery enclosures and interior components. Pitch-based fiber is a niche at an implied share of about 3.5%, but it is forecast to grow at a 6.9% CAGR. It is valued for heat dissipation in electronics and for reinforcing concrete in bridges and buildings.
By tow size. Small tow held 78% of 2025 revenue and is expected to grow at an 11.1% CAGR. It is preferred for body panels and roof structures in luxury and high-performance vehicles. Large tow is forecast at a 10.2% CAGR, driven by wind energy, where a lower cost per unit makes longer blades economically practical. Small tow is both the larger base and the faster grower, so it will likely contribute most of the new dollars, even though wind gets most of the attention.
By application. Aerospace & defense is the largest segment at a 32.4% revenue share in 2025, supported by next-generation aircraft, satellites, spacecraft and commercial space ventures. Wind turbines are the fastest-growing application at a 12.3% CAGR, about 1.4 percentage points above the overall market. Automotive, sports/leisure, molding & compounding, construction and pressure vessels complete the application picture.
By competitor. Grand View Research profiles 15 companies, including Toray Industries, Hexcel Corporation, Teijin Limited, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, SGL Carbon, Solvay, DowAksa USA and Hyosung Advanced Materials.
