When to start seeds indoors
I started my peppers way too early last year and they were leggy by transplant time. They’d outgrown their cups, and I had to pot them up twice. By the time it was warm enough to plant out, they looked exhausted.
This year I used the seed starting calculator on Gardenvoila to back-count from my last frost date. The timing for tomatoes and peppers was later than I’d been doing, so I’m holding off a couple of weeks. Hopefully sturdier seedlings result.
What’s your usual start date for tomatoes? And do you use grow lights, or just a sunny window? Mine gets leggy fast without supplemental light, so I’m considering a cheap shop light.
