Testing robots.txt rules before going live
I recently changed a few disallow rules and wanted to be sure important pages weren’t blocked. The syntax looked right to me, but I’ve been wrong about that before.
A robots.txt tester let me check specific URLs against the rules first. It caught one rule that was accidentally blocking a category page, which would have been a painful surprise. Fixing it took a minute.
Do you test robots changes every time, or only major ones? I’m becoming convinced it should be part of every deployment checklist. Has anyone set up an alert for when the file changes unexpectedly?
