Valued at USD 68.05 billion in 2025, the offshore wind energy market is projected to reach USD 76.18 billion in 2026 and USD 191.99 billion by 2034, growing at a CAGR of 12.2% during the forecast period 2026–2034. Growth is supported by rising investment in renewable power, increasing government initiatives, and a stronger focus on lowering the global carbon footprint. Key players include ABB, DEME, Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction, EEW Group, Envision, General Electric, Goldwind, Hitachi, Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Co., Nexans, Nordex SE, Rockwell Automation, Shanghai Electric, Siemens Gamesa, and Vestas.

Investment Momentum Shapes the Offshore Wind Energy Market

Rising renewable energy investment is a central driver of project expansion. The power industry has shifted toward green sources to slow fossil fuel depletion and mitigate climate change, while government rules are being implemented to support renewable programs. According to IRENA, renewables must rise from 25% to 86% of yearly global power generation by 2050 to satisfy the Paris Agreement objective. At the same time, high capital investment and longer development cycles, which involve supply chain logistics and maritime construction, remain substantial challenges.

Turbines Dominate Component Demand

Turbines led the component landscape with a 40.0% share in 2025, valued at USD 27.22 billion, owing to their role as the power generating units of wind farms. Wind turbines comprise blades, a tower structure, and a nacelle, and technology advances are focused on larger, more powerful units that generate more energy with improved capacity. This upgrading trend lowers the cost of energy by maximizing output per turbine, supporting the segment's dominant position.

Location Analysis: Installation Depth Shapes Growth

By location, shallow water held the largest revenue share of 49.9% in 2025, as most projects are launched there. Tower installation is more accessible and requires less capital investment, and ideal weather conditions and ease of maintenance make these sites popular. However, turbines with smaller megawatt capacities are placed in shallow water because offshore wind speeds are lower. The deep water segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.7% during the forecast period, as water depths exceeding 30 meters become increasingly popular. Rising investments in deep water projects, particularly floating installations, are projected to accelerate this growth.

Floating Technology Opens New Wind Resources

The expansion of floating offshore wind technology creates opportunities to harness vast, unexplored wind resources in deeper waters. Floating systems place turbines on towers anchored to the seabed, suit depths beyond 50 meters, and access stronger winds, though they are more expensive. Fixed-bottom systems are reliable and affordable but limited to depths of up to 50 meters, while transitional systems, operating at 30–50 meters, are cost-efficient but face installation issues.

Regional Outlook for the Offshore Wind Energy Market

Asia Pacific dominated in 2025 with a 39.9% revenue share, linked to the adoption of favorable policies in China, India, and Japan. Europe is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.0%, supported by growing investment in renewable energy; Vestas, ABB, Siemens, and Nordex SE are among the companies anticipated to boost regional growth. North America held a 16.9% revenue share in 2025, with the U.S. holding the largest regional share. For B2B stakeholders, these figures highlight a market where component leadership, water depth, and regional dynamics shape strategic positioning.
