What is Battery EPR Registration As Per 2022 Rules?
EPR for batteries refers to the process where the producer is held responsible for the management of the waste battery to ensure that there is no environmental or public health hazard. This involves the collection, recycling, and reuse of the batteries. In the Battery Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, the disposal of batteries by landfilling or incineration is totally banned.
As per EPR requirements, the producers can either manage the process of waste collection and recycling themselves or through a duly certified organization such as EWOUR.

Battery EPR Registration - Ewour
There has been an increased demand for batteries over the last decade. Investors have developed battery storage that will help with the energy transition. The world is moving away from fossil fuel power to emission-free electrification, where batteries become necessary to store energy. With the focus on renewable energy sources, there has been a growth in electricity consumption. There will be a generation of a huge quantity of battery waste. There is a need for an appropriate policy in response to the situation of growing battery waste.
To solve this problem, the Indian government formulated the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022. It has brought to light the idea of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for battery waste. The goal of the regulation is to facilitate effective Battery EPR Registration in India, in the sense that producers are responsible for collecting, recycling, or refurbishing the used batteries.
These battery waste management rules, 2022 were introduced by the ministry of environment, forests, and climate change on 22nd August 2022 to replace the Battery (Management & Handling) Rules, 2001 to ensure environmentally sound management of used batteries and EPR Registration for Battery in the country.
